VIRGINIA HIGHLAND. This incredibly popular noodle joint has taken the area by storm, and it's pretty certain that you'll have to wait for a seat if you don't go early. Serving a wide variety of Asian-themed dishes, Doc Chey's offers large portions at incredibly reasonable prices. Thai coconut chicken soup makes for a wonderful appetizer, as do the shrimp rolls. Main courses include everything from Szechuan vegetables to Vietnamese vermicelli and udon noodles. Broths, tinged with fresh herbs, are flavorful and ideal for slurping. With such great options, the place begs you to bring friends and sample all they have to offer. An outdoor patio provides a great place to hang out during warmer months.

Although it offers both Japanese and Korean cuisine, this much-frequented restaurant is best known for its Korean fare. Inside a large, high-ceilinged space, diners feast on authentic Asian specialties, including the hot pot with beef and homemade noodles, which is something of a signature dish. You will find a few options that aren't in the standard American repertoire (tripe, for example), but they're delicious if you want a change of pace. Service is attentive, and the invitingly elegant place is ideal for a relaxed lunch or dinner.

Everything is impeccably prepared, and the rolls are incredible, whether you choose a rainbow roll, California roll, or a soft-shell crab one. You'll also enjoy the edamame, yakitori chicken, seaweed salad, and the selection of noodle dishes. The authentic Japanese menu also offers patrons dishes that aren't as available at more mainstream places, including grilled eel and fried smelt.
